BLUE MARSH LAKE WATER QUALITY EVENT
Western Berks Water Authority is fully aware of the water quality testing that has occurred at Blue Marsh Lake by the US Army Corps of Engineers and the PA Department of Environmental Protection. The Authority has had daily communication with lake management and state regulators regarding the status of the testing. Western Berks Water Authority will be notified on the status of analytical results as they become available.
Western Berks Water Authority has implemented its Harmful Algal Bloom (HAB) screening process for the water that enters its intake and to this point has not detected any HAB in its raw water source. Should it become necessary to treat harmful algal toxins, the treatment process of the plant is robust and has been designed to handle significant algal loads.
Western Berks Water Authority will continue to monitor the situation at Blue Marsh Lake and make updates as conditions warrant.
